Story
Hi
You'll know little that I write is brief and hey, lawyers charge by the hour, at least until AI replaces us all, but please bear with me.
I've always wanted to do the marathon and this year I got in by ballot. Lots of people do marathons, in fact lots of people do much more impressive things, but for me this is big. I'm a 40 year old that put on too much weight over lockdown, has high blood pressure and cholesterol, metal like a Meccano set in my leg and an unhealthy affiliation with whisky and cheese! That's the first thing.
The second thing is that in doing this for charity and finally telling people, I'm exposing myself to failure and I hate letting people and myself down. Sounds odd that I find that scary but I do - scary I might not finish, might not make 4 hours, might not be good enough. That's probably why it's taken me this long to get a charity page up! So yes, this is big for me and out of my comfort zone - the mind is willing but the body not so much anymore!
Why Home-start Berkshire? It's a charity near where I live that gives children and parents of those children a help when they need it most. I grew up a privileged child, my own two are privileged and fortunately most people I know are similarly. The very least I can do is reflect on that and try to do some good for those who find themselves on hard times. Whether you have children or not, consider for a minute how you might feel in your hour of need - this charity and these volunteers are there.
Whatever your donation, thank you in advance for supporting me but more importantly in doing so, supporting a child to have a life that is a little bit better.
