I'm sleeping rough on top of the multi-storey car park at The Mall in Luton because on any one given night across this country ordinary people, not so different to you or me, are sleeping out. Stuck out in the cold, wet, windy weather on which we gladly shut our double-glazed PVC windows and doors... Not through their own choice but because as a modern society over time we have not provided enough homes or reasonable alternatives for all. 

Added to that, many have a complex mix of trauma and needs that hold them back from taking steps to get into a home, a job, training or a friendship group. YMCA Bedfordshire helps 210 people every night on their journey to do just that, building on each individual's strengths to find a way back from hopelessness. Contributions from our councils and Housing benefit pay much of the cost of accommodation but we have to find all the rest from charitable giving...the soft stuff - lifeskills and confidence-building which is so crucial.
