Generous donors generate the resources for us to change lives by awarding grants to the local community groups that need it most. Since 2003, we have awarded more than £9 million to more than 5,000 groups. We have awarded grants totalling more than £1 million through the Coronavirus crisis.

Story

The 'challenge:' swim around St Michael's Mount on 14th September 2008.

The moment of madness has now passed. I completed the circuit of St Michael's Mount just short of 45 minutes. The fine weather of the morning had given way to an ominous sea fret which made the west side of the island a bit challenging. We were escorted by the boatmen from the Mount... just in case, and an enthusiastic crowd of cheerleaders from dry land. I am told that a year short of my bus pass I am the oldest person to swim around the island. This is a record that I will not be defending however. The first and last time to do it.

I am raising money to support the work of the Cornwall Community Foundation, channelling money to local voluntary groups who really understand the needs of people, young and old, in the more deprived communities of Cornwall.

This event was organised in association with the RNLI.
