Story

Thanks for supporting my fundraiser for Macmillan Cancer Support, please see my story below.

Hi! I'm Jamie.

Towards the end of 2021, I visited my GP to check out a short list of things that had been on my mind throughout the COVID lockdowns. All of my concerns were completely normal although I was referred for an ultrasound of the neck just to be 100% sure that there was nothing going on. The ultrasound started fine and the area of concern at the top of my neck was completely normal, I was in good spirits until the scan moved to the bottom of my neck, a black circle appeared on the screen and the doctor started taking photos.

Fast forward three stressful months including Christmas and New Years and many tests, scans and consultations with no definite answers, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Thyroid Cancer on the 28th January 2022 at the age of 25.

Despite the initial shock of the news, the NHS, Macmillan Cancer Support Team, Jeanette Gilbert and Amy Gough in Worthing and Brighton have been incredible with handling my treatment. I had a five hour operation on Valentine's Day to remove my thyroid and surrounding lymph nodes and will be undergoing radioactive iodine treatment shortly to send me into remission.

I am forever grateful to my GP, the NHS and Macmillan for saving me. After speaking with my family, I believe we have a brilliant opportunity to raise money for those that have helped me so that they can continue to research this awful disease and treat those that are still fighting.

Therefore, I've registered to climb one of the world's Seven Summits, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania standing at 5895m above sea level. The climb will take 8 days and I have now started training cardio and trekking at high altitude following my treatment.

Thank you so much for taking time to visit my page and contributing towards a truly incredible cause.
