Bupa Great South Run 2009 · 25 October 2009 ·

1 in 6 people have some degree of hearing loss. [sonus] exists to provide opportunities for Deaf, Deafblind, deafened and hard of hearing people to have equal access to all sectors of the local communities. To continue to do this we need your help.

Story

I am doing Great South Run in aid of Hampshire deaf association, the money will go to D.E.A.F.F and Fun 4 you.

This is a charity who helped me when i was a young teenager, they have gave me alot in my life so i feel it's now my turn to give something back to help them help others. They provide social circles, activities and skills which helps our developement in life. Being deaf isn't easy, espescially when you're a kid. It's harder to get involved with people, make friends or develop yourself. Sometimes our confidence are rock bottom because they may have problems at home with communication, too shy to make friends or feel too embarassed to do anything.  Most of the times we don't get the opportunity to do what normal hearing children would do and Deaf.F give us that opportunity to experience what they would do.

I have always attended Deaf F activities since i was 11 till i was 17/18 as i felt it was my time to go in the real world. I have done many activities such as thorpe park, cooking, water sports, football training, hip-hop dancing and so on. These activities have made me the person i am today, full of confidence, made some great friends and i am very grateful to the volunteers who helped make this work.

As of late, due to the economics, they are having some difficulties in getting funds to help run the charity. I have decided it's time for me to give something back to make sure they can give other kids the opportunity i had.

I am aiming to raise AT LEAST £500 which will ensure they carries on for a bit longer so please dig deep, be generous to help this fantastic charity and it's amazing volunteers.

If we manage to hit the £500 mark, i will be wearing pink tights for the 10 miles run which surely will be uncomfortable for me so help out to make it more challenging and embarassing for me! =]

Thank you.
