Story
On the 5th November i will be attempting to run the length of King Alfred's Way, non-stop and completely self-supported. King Alfred's Way is a 220 mile loop around historic Wessex, the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of King Alfred the Great. The route starts and ends in Winchester where King Alfred is buried and connects iconic monuments such as Stonehenge, Avebury Stone Circle, Iron Age hill forts and Farnham Castle.
Self-supported means I will not be able to accept any assistance or support from anyone or anything along the way that isn't equally available to any member of the public. So once i start i am effectively on my own until i finish!
In finishing the 220 mile route (hopefully), i will be setting a Fastest Known Time (fastestknowntime.com). I can say this with a degree of confidence, as there are currently no verified recorded times against this route. So, i will be setting the bar for others to beat, which i can also say with equal confidence, won't be set very high!
Whilst this is very much a personal challenge, i would be immensely proud if my effort and struggles could also have a positive impact on something much more deserving. As such, I will also be running in support of the charity 'Together for Short Lives'. This is a truly amazing organisation that support families caring for children that have a life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Having completed a number of long-distance runs in the past, i know that i will experience some dark and painful periods during the course of 220 miles, however this will be a drop in the ocean compared to the pain and anguish families supported by this amazing charity live through on a daily basis.
By donating whatever you can afford, you will be giving me the inspiration i know i will need to get me through those dark times and most importantly helping Together for Short Lives make sure seriously ill children and their families can make the most of every moment they have together.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and for all your support.
