Jamie is running 2023 Edinburgh Marathon for Spinal Injuries Scotland

Edinburgh Marathon 2023 · 28 May 2023 ·
Welcome to my Just Giving fundraising page! I am running the 2023 Edinburgh Marathon for Spinal Injuries Scotland in order to raise as much money as possible. Last year, after a fairly innocuous fall, I ended up with a bad break in my neck which resulted with a stay in hospital followed by 4 months in a neck brace 24/7. This was very hard for me as I am used to being very active and have a full-time job to do etc. But it was harder on the family, even after getting over the initial shock of what might have been, Suzi had to pick up the pieces, doing her own job whilst taking on all driving, pick ups and drop offs at school and nursery, cooking, cleaning, shopping etc etc all whilst looking after me and the dog too. My children couldn't be carried or play with me as they had before, we couldn't do any of the outdoor activities or swimming together they had previously enjoyed and had to get used to being "careful, so as not to hurt daddy". I have been incredibly lucky, pretty much recovered from the accident now, able to resume life as it was before without having to adapt my lifestyle in the long term. I am very aware that others who have suffered similar injuries have to adapt to very different outcomes and I would like to help raise some money to support that to make it as easy as it can possibly be, as I can not image how hard that must be both for them and their loved ones. Please think of every time the scrum has gone down, a little crash when skiing or biking, a bump in the car or a stumble after a beer. It takes very little to cause a lot of damage and people need the help when they have been unlucky where I have been very lucky.
