Jamie& Bryn's Great British Bike Ride

My name is Jamie Hookham, on July 12th 2010, My mum, Susan Angier sadly passed away from Ovarian cancer, she was just 61 years old.
My mum was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in August 2009 after having several months of symptons that couldn't be pin pointed to a particular cause. My Mum underwent gruelling courses of chemotherapy for many months. Mum still remained vibrant and full of life and energy, even through the hardest days. She did of course lose her hair, but this didnt faze her, she just carried on, she looked great, as you can see from the picture we put up, she always was able to joke around and have fun. This picture sums her up, nothing was going to stop her being herself, Glamourous, Fun and Vivacious, regardless of her illness. At the begining of July 2010, doctors gave us the devastating news that they were stopping her treatment as it was no longer working, sadly within 10 days of that news, Mum passed away peacefully with all her family around her, and that is just how she would have wanted it to be.
Ovarian Cancer is the 4th most common cancer to effect women excluding non-melanoma skin cancers. Ranking fifth in cancer deaths among women, it accounts for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. What makes this cancer so dangerous? If caught early, it is very treatable, but most of us don't know any of the symptoms, Most GP's will only see one case of Ovarian cancer in every five years.
Unfortunately, as I said my Mum was unable to beat her cancer, however this doesn't have to be the case for other people. Cancer does not discriminate against anybody, so it is essential that funds are raised for research so we can help other woman and their families enjoy many more years together.
That is why me and my best mate, Bryn will be cycling from Forfar in Scotland, where my mum lived to my home town of Peterborough, Cambs, which is approximately 430 miles. We will be doing the ride over 4 days. The cycle ride will take place in July 2011 and we will cross the finish line on the 12th July 2011, to mark the anniversary of Mum's passing.
We hope to reach our target of £3000 and all proceeds will be donated to OVACOME, the ovarian cancer support network, so that they can continue the great work they do for the people and families effected by Ovarian cancer.
So please donate generously.
Many Thanks, Jamie
