Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

Thanks for visiting my page

Did you know Coronary disease is the UK's single biggest killer?

Both of my grandfathers had coronary conditions, so to say the work of the BHF is close to my heart (ahem) is an understatement. The BHF are relentless in researching and tackling coronary disease. It's true that 'you don’t know what you don’t know' - an example for me was finding out that 30,000 people in the UK suffer a cardiac arrest outside of hospital every year, and only 1 in 10 survive. In Norway that figure is 1 in 4. This brought home what a huge difference we can make...

So what's the challenge where I'm asking for your support?

I'm expecting my first Iron Man (triathalon) challenge to be tough -

There's a 1.2 mile open-water swim (for the
geographers in the crowd it's in the Firth of Forth sea - aiming not to
make it my first outdoor swim in a wet suit!) with transition from swim to bike
at Gosford House, built in the 1700’s (it's epic although during transition
might have to resist a National Trust style visit in the interests of time)

The next bit involves rocking around on a bike for 56.2
miles in East Lothian and Midlothian countryside (led to believe it's pretty hilly, good
for views, not so good for the quads)

Then after transitioning at Arthur’s Seat (a dormant volcano — geography shout out #2) I'll run a half marathon around Holyrood Park before crossing the finish line (hopefully in one piece and on two legs)

It goes without saying that any support you can offer is much
appreciated - but for the avoidance of doubt I've said it anyway :)

Cheers

Jamie
