Story

As a key worker in school who is currently on a rota, I decided I needed a physical challenge whilst working at home.

I would love to have done Lands End to John O’Groats on my bike in the summer holidays but instead decided to cycle the virtual distance of 1084 miles on a turbo trainer using a tracking app to upload all my rides to.

I started the challenge on the 14th April, cycling around 90miles per day split into two sessions. I didn't originally think about doing this for charity or raising money, it was something to keep physically active.

The first few days were hard, getting up early and spending hours in the saddle but once I’d started, it was important to finish. Since the start, many people have been in contact asking to donate as UK charities are struggling in the current climate.

Organisers of the biggest mass-participation sports events across the UK have come together to create a new campaign to raise vital funds to help the country’s charities during the coronavirus outbreak.

Thousands of fundraising events have been cancelled due to Covid-19, with National Council for Voluntary Organisations CEO Karl Wilding estimating that the UK charity sector will lose £4 billion in income as a result of the pandemic.

The campaign, named The 2.6 Challenge launches ‪on April 26‬, the original date of the 40th edition London Marathon – the world’s biggest one-day annual fundraising event which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019.

Tomorrow should have been one of the UKs largest fundraising events of the year and so I will cycle my final 26.2 miles to John O’Groats to tie in what would have been the London Marathon.

I have just set up a fundraising page with no expectations but it would be great if anyone can donate on my page

Thank you so much

Jamie
