Mencap wants a world where people with a learning disability gain an equal right to choice opportunity and respect. We believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving our vision

Story

Like a lot of people during the first lockdown, I started running, with the 5K challenge kicking it all off. I’ve always considered myself a fit person, but was surprised how much I struggled with that first 5K run. From that moment I said to myself, that was going to change, and that I would run the next London Marathon. Well now that seemingly stupid bet, has become a reality, thanks to the fantastic people at Mencap.

I’m proud to say that I’m running for a charity I truly believe in, the work Mencap do with people who have learning disabilities  is so important, even more so given the current situation.

I’ve grown up with my mum being an SEN teacher all my life, with some of my best friends also having learning disabilities, so I’ve seen the great work that organisations like Mencap can do.

So please if you can donate anything, it would mean so much to not only me, but to all the people struggling with learning disabilities across the globe. I completely understand if you’re currently unable to donate, by simply sharing this campaign, you help so much to achieving the target.

Please find some more information on Mencap, and a link to their website below.

Right now, people with a learning disability face inequalities in every area of life with almost 1 in 3 young people with a learning disability spending less than 1 hour outside their home on a typical Saturday.

People face barriers finding a job, accessing activities in their local community and receiving good quality healthcare. Mencap tackle these issues head on by providing support in a way that meets individual needs and encourages greater independence.

Mencap give expert advice and information that empowers people and their families. And they campaign relentlessly for changes that brings greater equality for people with a learning disability.

By supporting Team Mencap you will be helping to support people with a learning disability to live the life they choose, and do the things they love.
