Swim and Run for Streetwork Edinburgh/Simon Community · 28 February 2021

Everyday we work alongside people so that they can resolve their homelessness & recover. It is by working & learning together that we can drive change. We are proud to be part of Simon Community Scotland delivering a range of services across Glasgow, Edinburgh & beyond. Thank you for your support!

Story

Hello troops! Thanks for visiting my page and showing interest in the fundraiser. I am going to be swimming 5km in total at Porty beach and running 100km over the month of February to raise money for Streetwork Edinburgh.

Streetwork are a homelessness prevention charity located in Edinburgh and act as the frontline of support in getting people off the streets and back into society. They specialise in making sure each person in a tough living situation still receives the essential care they deserve such as;

  • Providing essential amenities (food, showers, telephone and computer access, laundry, books etc.) and support in organising advocacy, employment, banking and tenancy applications as well as medical appointments and prescriptions.
  • Period friendly points and specialist GP and veterinary drop-in sessions.
  • Workshops for skill development such as IT and online classes, literacy, cooking and book clubs.

With the pandemic outbreak in 2020 a lot of these types of services around the country were cut off, leaving the most vulnerable people in their most vulnerable state. Streetwork have remained fully functional the entire time, with voluntary staff out on the streets every day helping tackle the homeless crisis Edinburgh and the UK as a whole still faces.

Charities like this require funding to continue with their fantastic work, and any donations of any size can really make a difference. Even if you're only able to chuck a wee pound or two you're still doing a great deed and I'll be massively grateful!

I'll be providing updates on the Instagram page and sharing to Facebook too so you can have a good laugh at my struggles along the way. Any post likes and shares would be greatly appreciated also, it's a team effort champs - thanks for reading and being a part of it!

Much love xx
