Story
Hello!
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Along with 5 other colleagues from ACI, I’m taking part in “Byte Night”. Byte Night is Action for Children's national sleep-out event. Each year thousands of individuals and teams from the technology and business sectors give up their beds for one night to raise money to help change young people's lives.
Action for Children has been helping the most vulnerable and neglected children for 145 years. Through Byte Night, Action for Children raises funds and awareness of youth homelessness and tackles the root causes of why young people find themselves on the streets. They:
- work directly with over 300,000 children, young people, parents and carers- run 650 services across the UK
- tackle issues such as child neglect and abuseFrom Action for Children:
Our vision is a world where all children and young people have a sense of belonging and are loved and valued. A world where they can break through injustice, deprivation and inequality to fulfil their potential, shape their own destiny and experience the joy of life.
We are driven by three core values, which include everything we do, and have remained constant throughout our history:
- Passion (we are driven by our desire to help children and young people overcome injustice and disadvantage)
- Equality (we believe all children and young people have equal worth and equal rights)- Hope (we believe in a child or young person's potential, no matter what they have experienced or what they have done)
From a young person who has been helped by Action for Children:
"It's helped me change my life and has improved my job prospects - helped give a structure to my life and something to focus on"
And finally from me:
I think the experience is going to be quite something! The organisers talk about the "bone-numbing coldness" that you experience in the early hours of the morning (not looking forward to that bit!) But some young people find themselves with no alternative but to to sleep on the streets and face that every day, so I figure that one night to raise as much as we can is worth it. Thank you for reading all of this and I really would appreciate it if you would help our team raise as much as we can.
Thank you.
