School-Home Support (SHS) tackles barriers to learning for disadvantaged children. We work outside of the classroom, with parents to improve school attendance, behaviour and engagement in learning. Supporting children’s education is one of the most effective ways to break the cycle of disadvantage.

Story

My lovely husband and Nat and Cato’s father John died on 28 November 2016, aged 62. He had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease in June of this year. The rapid deterioration of his condition was truly shocking. He will be missed by hundreds.

John always actively supported my work at SHS. He really got how the very practical work SHS practitioners do with children and families can change lives, getting kids into school, ready to learn; then, crucially, going to the home to sort out the underlying issues.

He was never one for wasting money and he would see spending money on short-lived flowers wrong when it could do long-term good for children.

£10 could buy a pair of school uniform trousers.

£50 covers the cost of emergency food for a family in desperate need.

£100 is enough for a complete set of school uniform clothes and a PE kit.
