At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Mum/Nan 86 suffers from dementia.  Dad/grandad 88 is her full time carer. He is too proud to ask anyone for help so does everything by himself. It is so sad that they have worked hard all their lives and when they retired and should have been doing all the things they dreamt about, mum/nan became too unwell to do any of it.  It is a horrible condition.  She can't remember anything (although her long term memory is fine)  She thinks family members who passed away a long time ago are still alive and often talks about her father as if he is still with her.  She only recognises close family, she has no patience  and can be quite nasty to dad/grandad, she thinks he is a lot younger then he is and can't understand why he can't do everything he used to do  - all part of the illness I know but it heartbreaking to see.  We have called our team Forever Young because in mum/nan's mind she will always be young.

I just hope that by raising money and awareness of this terrible illness it will help others in the future
