Adidas Dublin Marathon 2010 · 25 October 2010 ·

Sylvia Wright works in a very deprived part of India. She runs a residential school for 210 profoundly deaf children, a day centre for disabled children and a Nursing College. She is supported by the Trust which has no paid staff and sends 97p out of every pound raised to fund her work.

Story

This is the last long run that i am ever going to do as i think i will need my knees and hips replacing after this marathon!!I have been promising myself for the last few years that i will run a marathon for Sylvia so here goes........

The Sylvia Wright Trust was set up nearly 30 years ago to support Sylvia in her work in India.

Sylvia sold her home in Leeds 30 years ago to live and work relentlessly among the sick and disabled in the very poor area of Tamil Nadu in India. I have spent some time there and have witnessed the amazing things the trust is doing to help improve lives. Importantly very little money goes on admin or overheads as the trust is staffed by volunteers - it goes straight to where it is needed in Tamil Nadu.

Sylvia has built and established a modern hospital, a school for deaf children, two centres for severely disabled children as well as running many vital community health projects.
