Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
To my family, friends, people I have looked after, or just people who know me as an Oncology/Haematology Nurse, I would like to explain my inspiration for agreeing to this madness!!
9 years ago I lost my sister in law to Amyloid/Myeloma. She was one of the most caring, kindest people I have ever known. Always there for everybody. The diagnosis was quite late, and she spent the last four months of her time with us in hospital, apart from an odd day home over christmas.
It was heartbreaking to see a lovely ( inside and out ), strong lady become so vulnerable and dependant, particularly for her family and mum. You don't expect your children to go before you....she was only 60- no age at all.
The decision to take part in the London to Paris ride was in a moment of madness on a train journey back from London with a dear friend (yes, she still is a friend!) who is also taking part. I can't even blame the wine as at this stage had only had half a glass!
If I can help make a difference, however big or small, to someone with Myeloma today or in the future, by raising vital funds for research into the disease so hopefully a cure will be found, or at least for better treatments to become available, it will be well worth the journey.
I am not a 'fitness pro' and I haven't ridden a bicycle (only a motorbike, but that doesn't count unfortunately. My friend is not allowing it) for a good many years...at least 40, but.....
It will be, and is extremely hard work which is frightening the hell out of me, but not as scary as getting a diagnosis, so even though the 500k seems like a millon miles to me, I will give it my all. And, the lovely lady will be always in my thoughts to hopefully spur me on all the way to the end.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my story
