Hear ye hear ye! Alex and I are going to EXERCISE. And not only that we are going to do it for a good cause.
Not any old cause but a brilliant cause, to raise money for the Alzheimer's society.

The fabulous thing about organisations such as the Alzheimer's Society is that, in the large part, they are all about the future. What will be achieved, the people that will be helped, the comfort that will be received.

For people with Alzhiemers though there is no future, just a recurring memory loop of their past. With my grandmother (we called her Nannie) it was like she went for a walk through her memories one day and never found her way back. I think this may romanticise the experience a little too much but this is what I remember thinking when I sat with her, still bright and erudite but no longer of this era.

Harder still, was the experience of my grandfather (Bampie) who was mourning the loss of his beautiful bubbly wife whilst shouldering the burden of full time carer for a woman he didn't recognise.

Both gave so much through out their lives to their community, their family and their oodles of friends. I would like to give a little something back too in the hope that, in the future, no one has to go through what they did.

For this reason Alex, my mum (Ann Mitchell) and I (and anyone else I can cajole, bully or bribe into joining us) are taking part in the Bristol Memory Walk on September 20th and would be very grateful of your support.
