1000km for £1000 · 18 December 2021

Our sixteenth anniversary on 1st November is getting closer and as usual, we are celebrating by raising funds to be able to keep supporting the families who live on the slopes of the Telica volcano.

Story

In support of Nuevas Esperanzas' sixteenth anniversary, I am raising funds for the families who live on the slopes of the Telica volcano. In a weak moment last December, I agreed to run 1000km this year as a long distance (the distance between us, not how far we run!) running partner of a friend in the UK.

As I have forced myself up and out to run at least three times a week in the Nicaraguan heat and the British cold and rain, I have found myself thinking about the choices I have. I exercise for health, fun, or to keep up with a fellow running friend, but I do not have to. The families in Agua Fria, have to walk that far in a year, up and down steep tracks, in order to collect water for their daily needs. I carry a small water bottle filled with ice cold water to refresh me. They carry heavy buckets of water, which they will need to use sparingly for washing, drinking and cooking.

Please help me help these families by making a donation that will help Nuevas Esperanzas build more rainwater harvesting tanks so these families will not have to walk 1000km a year for water.
