Swimathon 2020 · 27 March 2020 to 31 December 2020 ·

Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are calling on the nation to get down to the pool for Swimathon 2020 - thousands of swimmers, two great causes, one big charity challenge.

Story

UPDATE:. As a result of the Covid-19 closure of leisure centres just prior to my original date I am one of the many swimmers now doing their challenge as Myswimathon. This means I will be swimming the 5K over several sessions as there are no opportunities to swim for 3 hours or so available, and we are unable to congregate for a group challenge.

I will therefore be swimming for four consecutive days to complete the distance, starting this Sunday 20th September.

This is my 5th year swimming in the Swimathon alongside my swim buddy Gill. On Sunday 29th March we will once again swim 5K individually.

I have too many family members and friends who have suffered from the dreadful disease that is cancer. Please help me to raise as much as possible to support the work of these amazing charities, and work towards prevention, better treatment and a cure. Thank you 💜

On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading down to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners.

Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK are the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.

Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.

Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
