Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

I've been supporting the work of East Meru Community School in rural Tanzania for the last 10 years, as a founder trustee of the UK charity, working alongside the Tanzanian management team. The school not only provides a quality education for children in a remote, rural area in the north of the country, but it also provides valuable employment for many local families. For more information about the school please visit www.eastmerucommunityschool.org.

Ten years ago, there was just one classroom, a kitchen and a dining hall. Today there are eight classrooms, an office block, accessible toilets, a playing field, and ancillary buildings where the uniforms and shoes are all made on site - all built with the help of super generous donations. The school also runs on solar power and harvested rainwater.

Our most recent project was the completion of a new library building which now needs to be equipped. The hope is that it will become a focal point for learning in the wider community, with access to computers, books and other learning resources - not just for the children of East Meru Community School, but also for children in the local schools and additionally for adult learning.

On December 5th I will be running my first official marathon in the Cayman Islands as a fundraiser for the school, and I would be so grateful if you could donate whatever you can to this totally excellent cause. Training has been really tough and involves mostly running in the dark to avoid the heat and humidity and I have to say, I know the last 10k is going to be tough! Your donation will be a huge encouragement to me, and will be SO much appreciated by the staff and children of EMCS. A huge thank you!
