We are a local charity supporting the social needs of blind and partially sighted people. We offer a range of activities including: social centre, outings, holidays, computer training, shopping escorts, befrienders etc. These activities help to reduce isolation and help with independence.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Those that know me, know that walking up hills, camping in temperatures below zero and not getting properly washed for a week is my idea of hell, so this trek will definitely be a personal challenge for me! However sometimes you have to go out of your comfort zone to appreciate how easy your normal life is.

My mum is registered as severely sight impaired due to Macular disease. It has a major impact on her quality of life - she can no longer read, comfortably watch tv, catch a bus or deal with correspondence. She has gone from a strong independent person to someone who has to rely on others for things the rest of us take for granted. Teesside & District Society for the Blind provides advice and help to my mum and many people like her. The centre arranges much needed outings, holidays and a social centre and is an invaluable resource for blind people and their relatives.
