Story

“First elected to the Welsh Assembly in May 2011, Janet is the constituency Member for Aberconwy in North Wales and Shadow Minister for Local Government in the National Assembly for Wales.

As a former member of both Llandudno Town Council and Conwy County Borough Council, holding the roles of Cabinet Member on the County Authority; Chair of Principal Scrutiny Committee and leader of the Welsh Conservative Group, together with being a former Mayor of Llandudno town she gained both a comprehensive and valuable political experience. Janet was also previously a National Assembly regional candidate for North Wales, and a Parliamentary approved candidate before being selected as the Welsh Conservative candidate for Aberconwy in an Open Primary – the first of its kind to be held in Wales.

The success at the 2011 elections to the National Assembly for Wales for the Welsh Conservatives, put them into the position of  "Official Opposition". Under the leadership of Andrew RT Davies AM. Janet is a member of the Communities, Equalities and Local Government Committee, Vice-Chair of the Cross-Party Group on the Horse, member of the Cross-Party Group on Vision and Health Committee.

As Assembly Member for Aberconwy, Janet represents her constituency strongly, scrutinising the Welsh Government’s activities in a range of different areas. Amongst other things calling for more investment in Health and Social services – particularly for the elderly and those suffering with mental health problems; less regulation for farmers; greater provision of broadband in rural areas; support for small and medium-sized businesses, as well as value for taxpayers money and less central government waste.”
