The RBL are the UK's leading charity providing financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served and are currently serving in the British Armed Forces and their dependents.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

My name is Janet Hallett, from Pembrokeshire, West Wales. It has been a challenging year for so many and finding ways to keep busy and active can be difficult as you get older but even more so during a pandemic. Knitting has always been a hobby of mine and in Christmas 2020 my family gifted me a 'challenge' the Deramores pattern in association with the Royal British Legion 'The poppy blanket'.

I was well occupied over the months that followed, hours of knitting, not only the blanket (130cm x 140cm) but the 50+ individual poppies.

So why the British Legion?

The pattern is inspired by the cascading Weeping Window and Wave installation and is a way of remembering those who gave their service and lives to the armed forces.

I am now seeking to raise money for a charity, in its 100th year and that is close to me and the heart of my family. My father served in the Welsh Guards, my Great Uncle died in WWI and is remembered in Ypres, Belgium. My youngest son served in the British Army for 15 years and now my eldest grandson is serving in the Royal Navy.

I hope to raise money through this page for the RBL. On the 20th November, I will put all names into a hat to draw out a new owner for the blanket. I'd be grateful if those donating could leave their names should they wish to be entered in the draw for the poppy, which I will indeed send on to its new home.
