On 24th October, my mum lost her battle with cancer. She was diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer just a few months ago, and rapidly declined while she was at home. Her failing health and suffering was such that we reluctantly decided to put her in a hospice to try ease her pain. When she was taken by ambulance to John Eastwood Hospice, we thought we would never see her again.

In the space of a week, the wonderful staff at John Eastwood managed to turn the tables. My mum's pain was under control, she was able to sit up and talk, she started eating and drinking again. She looked like mum again. 

Without John Eastwood Hospice we would have lost my mum many weeks ago. They gave us extra time with her that we will cherish forever.

The staff who cared for my mum were amazing, there are no words that can truly capture how thankful we are for what they did and how they put my mum at ease during this terrible time.

While I cannot put a price on the work they do, the Laverick family would like to ensure that they can continue providing their palliative care services for other people who need their help.

In place of any flowers at my mum's funeral, we are asking for donations to John Eastwood. We also plan to raise additional funds to help them buy much-needed equipment. John Eastwood relies entirely on charity fundraising so every penny you can offer will make a difference.
