Story
Midsummer Night Madness
As you know Janice died a year ago on the 1st June from the effects of pancreatic cancer. So on the night of the 21st June 2011 Jason, Ashley and Colin are going to drive from Lands End to Lowestoft and we are seeking sponsors for the challenge in memory of Janice for the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
The 21st June is Mid-summers day and the longest day of daylight hours, thus the night will be the shortest night of night hours or if you are more technically minded it will be the shortest time between sunset and sunrise the next day. The night will also be shorter if you travel from the most westerly to the most easterly point of the country by 43 minutes.
The sun will set at Lands End (the most westerly point in England) at 21:36hrs and rise in Lowestoft (the most easterly point in England) at 04:30hrs, a time difference of 6hrs 54mins.
The distance between the two places is approx 432 miles and the time needed to drive this according to one of the Internet’s mapping systems using the national speed limits is 6hrs 41mins.
So there is our challenge, to leave Lands End as the sunsets and arrive in Lowestoft as the sun rises giving us a leeway of just 13 minutes. That is 13 minutes for any issues on the road on having to drop below the official speed limits, changing drivers and for convenience stops etc. During the trip we will not knowingly exceed the official speed limits and will be using the Tom Tom Sat Nav speeds to guide us.
So if you are able to sponsor us we would appreciate your support with this. We know we all get bombarded with these requests so we are not expecting any great amounts, a few pound would help.
We will keep you updated or you could phone us during the night to help keep us awake. My mobile will be on in the car during the full trip.
Many thanks Colin, Jason and Ashley.
