Resolution Run Liverpool 2019 · 31 March 2019 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

On Sunday 31st March 2019 myself, Jay, Lucas and Amelia along with various family members are taking part in the 5k Stroke Resolution Run in Croxteth Park. We are doing this in honour of our beautiful little princess Amelia who unfortunately suffered two strokes when she was just ten months old.

In December 2017 our whole world changed forever. Our little girl contracted an infection (they think it started in her gut although the exact type of the infection was never detected even after numerous tests), this infection then caused her bone marrow to stop working (due to a underlying genetic condition called ‘Shwachman–Diamond syndrome’ which we didn’t know she had at the time). She then developed sepsis and this had an impact on all her organs and caused her heart to develop a vegetation, which caused numerous blood clots within her body and caused Amelia to suffer two strokes. One being on the left and one being on the right side of her brain. We were told to prepare ourselves for the worst. We literally never left her bedside and after spending five weeks in ICU Amelia went from strength to strength and was moved onto the baby ward in the hospital and then after some time the rehabilitation ward. After spending at total of 15 weeks and 3 days in hospital we were able to bring our baby girl home.

Amelia has recently turned two and is still recovering from the effects of her stokes. Thankfully she is doing amazing all things considered. She is the strongest, happiest, most determined little girl that we know. She has a long road ahead of her but we will all be there to help her every step of the way and watch her grow and achieve whatever she sets her mind too.

By doing this run we are hoping to spread awareness that children can suffer strokes too!!!! We ask if you could all take the time to share our story and if possible could donate in order to help stroke survivors and their families through the most difficult of times. The money will also help to fund new research and will hopefully help in the recovery of both children and adults affected by strokes.             💜 #teamAmelia 💜
