Lake District Ultra Challenge 2023 · 10 June 2023 to 11 June 2023 ·
I signed up to this challenge back in February, and in true Jason Bates style its all ended up a bit #Lastminute.
Enjoying a 'challenge' as I do, and having already signed myself up to running 100 x 10k runs this calendar year as a personal goal - what could be easier than a 'little walk' to top up on the miles in the middle of the year.
As it turns out, walking 100km continuously is a lot harder than it sounds, especially if your only prep is running for 10k two or three times per week :)
Circumstances now dictate that I am the only member of my team (stupid enough) to attempt the full 100km in what looks being temperatures of upto 25 degrees on Saturday.
I have left it late to make a final decision on the distance as I would not ask people to part with their hard earned cash if I didn't think I was up to the challenge, but having come through a c.20 mile practice walk last weekend relatively unscathed, I have decided I can give it a go.
I know it wont be easy and there will almost certainly be times where I am ready to give up, but having your support might just be enough to help me force myself through to the finish line - especially in the night section, once the rest of my colleagues are (sensibly) in the pub.
I know that times are hard so I really appreciate any and all donations and no amount is too small - every extra penny per mile (its 60 miles if that helps) or KM will help to motivate me to that finish line.
THANK YOU!

Team Statement:
We are the Aviva Claims Supply Chain Team, and we’re seeing more and more, the impacts of climate change on our customer’s homes and in their communities. Severe weather events, flooding and storms that used to be once in a generation are now happening far more frequently, we see the damage and disruption this causes first-hand, so we want to try to help make our communities more resilient. Climate change and its implications for our customers, our families, our communities, and in particular for our natural world, is the one of the biggest challenge facing us all.
So what better way to lend our support in building a better tomorrow than challenging ourselves to raise money for Aviva’s climate charity partner WWF-UK, to help reduce the risk of climate-related natural disasters and create wider benefits for people and communities in which we live.
As a team, we’ll be taking on the Lake District Ultra Challenge in June 2023. The Challenge is a tough event, where each individual will walk, jog, or run either 25km, 50km or 100km
We’re grateful for any sponsorship and words of encouragement you can give our team as they take on this demanding challenge!
Aviva and WWF – Acting on climate change for a better tomorrow
As the UK’s leading insurer we recognise that strategic partnerships with trusted organisations are vital to meeting our sustainability ambition and to help build stronger more resilient communities.
That’s why Aviva are proud to be WWF-UK’s lead pension and insurance partner. Working together with WWF, we are helping to make millions of people more resilient to the impacts of climate change through the protection and restoration of nature across the UK – one of the most nature depleted countries in the world. Your support can help WWF-UK achieve even more. Every pound we raise goes towards their vital work to halt the decline of nature and support its recovery, helping to create a future where people and nature thrive.
Thank you in advance for your support.
