The charity is raising money to fund medical research into Alper's Syndrome - a very rare, terminal condition generally found in young children

Story

Hello!

This September I will be running my 1st half marathon to raise money for the Ryan Stanford Appeal. This wonderful charity funds research into understanding the causes of Alpers' syndrome, a devastating, fatal mitochondrial disease which involves severe, uncontrollable epilepsy and a loss of developmental milestones in children.

As many of you will know, my niece is currently doing her PhD research which has been funded by the Ryan Stanford Appeal for the past 3 years. It is essential future research can continue to aid the development of treatments to help stop the inevitable, progressive neurodegeneration.

I will hopefully be running the GNR along with Laura and 50,000+ other runners, but in the case of cancellation due to the current pandemic, I will be running my own half marathon around Newcastle with Laura on the 12th September.

All your donations, however big or small, will be extremely appreciated by the many families who have sadly lost their children to Alpers' syndrome including Ryan Stanford's. I will be running for you!

Thank you for all your donations in advance!
