On December 20th 2020 my wife (Loren) gave birth to our 3rd child, Arthur. Within the next 5 days Arthur would be transported (Via ComitTransport) to Leicester Royal Infirmary where he received lifesaving treatment for a punctured stomach. Shortly after New Year’s Day, Arthur would have another emergency surgery, this time for a perforated bowel and fitted with a Stoma.

Within the coming days and weeks, he spent his time in the Paediatrics Intensive Care Unit and the Surgical Recovery Ward (Ward 10). During this time, we spent time we faced a virtual Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the UK entered its second lockdown and the Elijah (5) and Isla (3) would begin home schooling. After 35 days recovery, Arthurs Stoma was reversed and we came home on February 15th 2021.

Over 53 days in total, the incredible care from the surgeons, nurses and staff at Leicester Royal Infirmary never changed. We overheard the many complications caused by COVID and a new national lockdown. Multiple nurses contracted COVID and were back 14 days later without missing a step. We'll always be thankful to everyone we met at Leicester Royal Infirmary during this time and we are happy to support them and the children’s ward as they transition to the new purpose-built Children’s Hospital.

Now that Arthur his home, his care has continued with follow up calls with his Surgeons and Dietitian as he continues grow!

On October 10th I will walk on the coals at the Firewalk at the Leicester General Hospital. The money I raise will go to Leicester's Hospitals specifically to the children’s wards as part of our ongoing thanks to the nurses, staff and surgeons at Leicester Hospitals.
