London Marathon 2023 · 23 April 2023 ·
I am thrilled to have been given a last-minute place in this year’s London Marathon, running for the incredible charity, MacIntyre. Training is well underway and the blisters have arrived!
https://www.macintyrecharity.org/
MacIntyre is an amazing charity that helps meet the complex needs of people with learning disabilities and/or autism. My step Uncle Richard had been cared for by MacInytre since its inception in 1966. Terribly sadly he died last Sunday (13.02.23) surrounded by his sisters and wonderful carers who had known and loved him for years.
Macintyre was started by a cohort of parents, who found it impossible to find suitable care for their children with profound learning disabilities, save for long term mental institutions. Richard was the second resident at Macintyre and for the first year lived with the family who started the charity. It has evolved massively over the years to meet the ever-demanding challenges of today’s society. Macintyre now provides day care, education, and residential care to nearly 2,000 individuals, for both adults and children with severe mental and often physical disabilities.
With an ageing population, Covid and contracting social sector funding, MacInytre's provision has never been more needed or more stretched. So many families have been helped enormously by the care and support MacIntyre can bring. It is such an honour for me to be able to do my bit to help.
Every single penny that I raise will go directly to MacIntyre, helping them to help empower and care for all the residents.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I hope that my efforts in running the marathon will inspire you to donate.
Please reach out if you want to learn more about MacInytre or just want to give me a little encouragement.
Thank you again,
Jasper
