Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Let me make it clear that I have now done the trek. It was very difficult. If you leave your email I will send you my travelogue with photos.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Sankara Eye Foundation Europe gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Many of you already are aware that through my work with Kiran Talking Newspapers and Brent Visually Handicapped Group I have been associated with serving the visually impaired for the past 25 years. It is impossible for a sighted person to comprehend what life is  without the use of sight. India has a huge problem with so many without sight and in many cases this not ought to be. In many cases vision can be restored with a simple operation. But poor cann't afford such an operation. Sankara Eye Foundation has embarked on an ambitious programme to help thease poor people. They have opened eye hospitals in many cities and plan to achieve one in each state of India. Last year they opened one in Anand, Gujarat and now plan the next one in Punjab. They need funding. Sankara Eye Foundation Europe is engaged in activities to raise money for this worthy cause. Himalayan Trek was such activity and we had hoped to raise £35000 through sponsorship of this trek. I need to make it clear that I had paid for all my own costs. Anymoney  given in sponsorship goes directly to Sankara Eye Foundation Europe.

In addition to helping the poor of India I also wanted to indicate to others  that such an arduous task ccould be easily undertaken by someone of my age - I turned 68 during the trek - 2nd September to be precise. The trek took us from Manali(2000m) to Beas Kund(3950m). My page will remain open until 7 January 2010 so  please, donate as much as you can, we are still £5000 short of our target of £35000.

So please donate now and give a gift of sight to a poor Indian!
