Story

In April 2016 I took Molly, then 5, to the doctors and we didn't come home for 15 days.

The doctor, who happened to be a school mum at Molly's school, sent us straight to Stoke Mandeville Hospital where a CT scan showed a large brain tumour. I remember asking how large the tumour was (I physically could not bring myself to look at the scan) and was told it was the size of an apple.

There was no time to prepare either ourselves or Molly as we were advised that an ambulance was taking Molly straight to John Radcliffe as they did not feel she was stable enough to let us drive her there. Upon arrival at JR we had the surgical team waiting for us in A&E to brief us and get consent forms signed as she was being operated on the very next morning. I can honestly say that I have never felt so scared or helpless.

Molly had two days of being operated on. The surgeon was unable to get all of the tumour out on the first day due to being exhausted on working on her for so long. Molly was taken down for the Op at 8am and we were called back around 8pm so he had more than given it his best shot on day one.

After the operation Molly had to learn to walk, talk and basically move again. Molly struggled to see properly and got tired very easily. Molly is still not back to how she was before the operation and some things are still a struggle however her determination got her back to school within a few weeks (although not full time) and she is now running and dancing and doing all the things a 7 year old should be doing.

She has a fantastic team who look after her at JR and the support from the hospital has been and still is amazing. Molly will continued to be scanned for at least another 11 years and any surgeon/consultant/physiotherapist that have dealt with Molly from JR will continue to give her direct access to them should she/we ever need it.

Its not easy for me to share this story and the only reason I am doing so is that I am committed to raising as much money as possible so that others can get the level of care we have experienced.
