Story
My dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer November 2011. We were told he had a maximum of 3 months to live at first as it seemed he had been suffering quietly for at least 5 years without knowing. I soon contacted my Uncles to come up to Scotland to see him, which they did. My dad soon got transferred to Marie Curie in Edinburgh where I was informed he had 2 - 3 weeks. Having my mum pass away years ago, this came as a shock and disbelief. This kind of thing only happens to other people but not me. I have 2 children, 1 of a year and the other of 4 years. I made sure they saw my dad as much as possible but when things went downhill, had to make it the last visit. My 4 year old distraught and it's even harder for me to hear from her that she wants to go in the sky to stay with grandad. He had fallen asleep on the 19th November. Me and my fiancee knew it was coming to the end so decided to spend the night with my dad. To have my dad how I saw him, I would rather forget. That wasn't him. He didnt know who I was, he was being violent towards everyone and this is someone who wouldnt hurt anyone and thought alot about his family. After this night, actually realised the kind of care and hard work that Marie Curie do which is why I have set up a Direct Debit. The 20th November, 2 weeks after he was diagnosed, I got that dreaded phone call at 9.15am to say he had passed. I cannot describe how we all felt. Thankfully he is now in peace and out of pain with my mum xx
