I am going to trek the Great Wall of China this summer in aid of Dementia UK. Minimum 50% of the money I raise goes to Dementia UK to develop admiral nursing services for people affected by dementia. 

I decided to take part in this challenge because I believe it will be a great opportunity to experience the world and to contribute to a good cause. 

I have a grandmother who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's disease (a type of dementia), and it is absolutely heart-breaking to see my own family member struggle. Taking care of my beloved grandmother is very difficult (physically and emotionally), and sets challenges after challenges.

This directly encouraged me to support Dementia UK. Dementia UK is a national charity promoting specialist nursing support available to everyone affected by dementia around UK. It aims to provide admiral nurses, i.e. specialist dementia nurses, who give expert, practical and emotional support for family carers, as well as the person with dementia.  Admiral Nurses offer support to families throughout their experience of dementia that is tailored to their individual needs and challenges.  820,000 people have dementia in UK now. An estimated 1,000,00 people will be diagnosed with dementia by 2025. However, there are currently 135 Admiral Nurses in the country and they are sadly not yet available in every area. 

Help Dementia UK provide Admiral nurses for everyone, and help me trek the Great Wall of China. I will learn a life lesson all along this journey to go to China, and greatly appreciate your help that will make this journey come true.

안녕하세요. 제 JustGiving 페이지를 방문해주셔서 감사해요. 

저는 Dementia UK 라는 자선단체를 위해 이번 여름에 만리장성의 일부분을 트레킹할 예정이에요. 제가 모으는 돈의 반 이상이 Dementia UK 가 치매로 어려움을 겪고있는 가족들을 위해 치매 전문 간호사 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 기부될 거랍니다.

저는 세상을 경험하고, 또 무언가 사회에 도움이 되는 일을 할수 있다는 일석이조의 이유 때문에 이 도전에 참가하게 되었어요. 

제게 치매를 가지고 계시는 할머니가 있다는 점도 제가 Dementia UK라는 단체를 서포트하는 계기가 되었는데요, 아직 치매 초기시지만 점점 증상이 악화되시는 할머니를 보면 마음이 많이 아픕니다.  

Dementia UK는 영국의 국립 자선 단체로, 치매로 영향을 받는 모든 사람들에게 치매 전문 간호 서비스를 제공하는 단체에요. Admiral Nurses 라는 치매 전문 간호사들이 치매로 어려움을 겪고있는 환자들과 가족들에게 실질적이고 또 정신적인 도움을 주기위해 노력하고 있어요. 하지만 안타깝게도 많은 치매 환자들에 비해 현재 영국에는 135 명의 Admiral Nurses 밖에 없고 이또한 몇몇 지역에 국한되는 이야기입니다.

Dementia UK가 모든 치매 환자 및 가족들에게 전문 간호 서비스를 제공할 수 있도록 도와주세요! 우리와는 상관 없는 이야기라고 생각 하실 수 있지만, 우리나라에는 전국 시군구에 치매상담 서비스 및 치매 지원센터가 설립되어있는 반면 영국은 아직 치매 복지서비스에 관해 도움이 필요한 실정입니다. 

Dementia UK 뿐만이 아니라 제가 중국 만리장성에 갈 수 있도록 여러분의 도움이 필요합니다...(하....) 재정적으로나 물리적으로나 만리장성 횡단은 제 인생에 있어 큰 도전이 될 것 같아요. 하지만 이 여정 속에서 또 많은 것을 배우고, 느낄 생각을 하니 정말 벌써부터 가슴이 두근거립니다. 이 여정을 실현시킬 도움을 주실 여러분에게 미리 감사의 말씀 드립니다. 꼭 큰 기부가 아니여도, 100 원, 500 원, 응원 한마디는 제게 큰 도움이 된답니다. :) 아! 그리고 JustGiving 을 통해 하는 기부는 완전 안전하다고 하네요!
