Jean was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2011. The cancer was present in her lymph nodes, lungs, liver and bones. The doctors said that they could only give palliative treatment. Jean was given hormone tablets which did not work for very long, she then had surgery to have her right breast and lymph nodes removed. This was followed by a course of radiotherapy and then chemotherapy every three weeks. After this Jean was given more hormone treatment in an attempt to slow down the growth of the cancer. This again had little or no effect. Chemotherapy was administered on a weekly basis, this reduced Jeans immunity and she has a couple of weekly stays in hospital. Jean never complained about the hair loss, mouth ulcers, nails falling off or the tiredness. Jean continued to support her family as much as she could. On the 20th of October her grandson Warrens 2nd birthday, Jean complained that she had a twitching in her left leg, an ambulance was called and she was taken to A&E at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Woolwich. The twitching was getting worse and it turned out to be a seizure in her leg. After the Doctors had the seizure under control a brain scan was carried out. Our worse fears had come true, the cancer had spread to Jean brain, this was the only time that Jean was upset and cried, this was a very difficult time for us all. Jean was transferred to Guys Hospital and had radiotherapy to her brain, followed a few days later of a different type of chemotherapy. After having the chemotherapy Jean deteriorated visibly every day.
Sadly on the 22nd of November Jean lost her brave battle and passed away.
Jean was the kindest, generous, most beautiful and amazing women you could ever meet.
She never moaned or complained through all her treatment, and has inspired everyone she ever met.
We miss her so much, she was a wonderful bright bubbly women struck by this cruel illness, she was taken from us far too soon.
Jean's funeral took place on the 16th of December, it was very well attended by her family and friends. The family wanted some goodness to come from our sad loss of Jean, so we requested for donations to cancer research, this will provide valuable funds to discover cures to rid the world of this cruel disease, preventing others having their loved ones taken from them.
Jean may be gone, but never forgotten.
Always in our hearts.
