UPDATE: I have now completed a marathon in 3:37, so although it wasn't the Brighton Marathon I've done it! Thank you all so much for your support and your donations.

I found out at the end of last year that my chronic cough is caused by Bronchiectasis. Despite it destroying the middle lobe of my lungs, I am very lucky to be able to continue life normally just with a productive cough and the odd bout of illness. I got off lightly compared to huge numbers of people in this country who suffer with more severe symptoms of many different respiratory diseases, which are on the increase. Sufferers are able to live more comfortable lives nowadays thanks to medicine and charities like the British Lung Foundation.

I was told that exercise was the best thing for Bronchiectasis as it improves the function of the remaining lung(s) so I proudly informed the doctor that I was training for this marathon and am even more determined to finish the marathon than ever not just for me but for everyone with a lung disease.
