The '58 Comeback Special · 9 February 2019

Our mission is to stop men dying by suicide and we believe death by suicide is preventable. Yet, in the UK suicide is still the single leading cause of death of men under 35. At James’ Place, we provide professional therapy for men in suicidal crisis to help them find hope for the future.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I haven't been in a band in 33 years and I haven't played on stage in 29 years. However, call it a midlife crisis but that is all about to change. Originally, I thought I’d do it for my 60th in 2021 but decided that there’s no point in waiting. So after a period of self doubt and of trying to persuade myself that it was a good idea and then trying to persuade other people to join me in my madness, the moment has arrived.

Joining me on stage as Velvet Grenade will be my long time collaborators Mark Kemp and Nicky Williams. Chris Kelly, Mark Birchall and Jim Softley will also be holding down the rhythm section and adding subtle mayhem, beautifully. This will only be a one off gig and it will be for charity with a meagre £3 door fee, also accepting donations on the night and hopefully there will be merchandise on the night with all profits going to the charity too.

We are supporting James’ Place because as most of you know, I work in the touring music industry, selling merchandise for bands and shows around the world. Over the years I have lost a lot of friends and colleagues to suicide. You would never know when they were on tour, when they were often the 'life and soul’, that they had any problems in their world. Everyone of them has surprised me. Having centres Jame’s Place could help reduce the amount of lost lives and with your help and donations, we can make a difference. Read about the work they do here. https://www.jamesplace.org.uk

Ironically, another centre I approached were unable to accept my offer of support as they were having to close after 30 years due to lack of support. Lets keep these services available when they are needed now more than ever.

The ’58 Comeback Special will be at The Zanzibar Club, Seel Street, Liverpool on 9th Feb 2019. Alongside Velvet Grenade and making the trip up from London, will be Lolly Hayes and the Naked Flames.

Lolly was previously in the acclaimed Johnny Boy, their single "You Are The Generation That Bought More Shoes And You Get What You Deserve" was produced by James Dean Bradfield and achieved critical acclaim, reaching #50 in theUK singles Chart in August 2004. Her latest vehicle features Justin Smith (ex Shack) on Bass and  Will Lewington (ex The Band of Holy Joy and Fallen Leaves) on Drums

Expect a wondrous noise and fluid grooves a plenty.
