Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The reason I am fundraising for this little known charity is because behind the scenes they are doing great work to give opportunities to children with hearing loss and impairment. They run social events which are optimised for the deaf community, support deaf children in schools run family support groups and provide sign language training to the children and their families helping to bridge the gap between the hearing and deaf world.
This charity has kindly provided Minnie and I with a deaf teacher (Mary) who has come out to our house and taught us BSL over 10 weeks so that we can teach Eva and Grace. This has given us a way to communicate with Eva in noisy environments and when she is unable to wear her hearing aids. Eva’s hearing tests have shown a gradual deterioration in her hearing, she currently has a moderate (near severe in some pitches) deafness and it is unclear if it will deteriorate further. Accessing BSL has already proved hugely beneficial and in the future should she require it to be her pimary language she has a good foundation.
For many families this skill is the only way for parents to be able to communicate with the children and avoid the isolation that can come from being shut out of the hearing world.
In short this little charity is a life line for many deaf families. Many thanks for reading.
