It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

One of the nicest people I have ever met first told me about the Magic of Milly fundraising group

Milly's story is best told by her mum Emma who set about raising money and awareness in her name for all the amazing work the dedicated professionals at Birmingham Children's Hospital do every minute of every day

Milly was born in March 2013, at 37 weeks gestation weighing 4lb 13oz. Prior to her birth complications were detected, but she did not receive a diagnosis until she was twelve weeks old. Milly had a very rare congenital condition.

Initially it was vital that Milly grew as much as possible, as her Doctors wanted her to be strong for theatre to give her the best chance of recovering from what was always going to be a big operation. The prognosis was good at this time – she was growing well and appeared to be thriving despite her difficulties.

Milly spent the early part of her life in hospital, but was able to come home at fifteen months, supported by her mum and dad and a team of overnight carers. She remained at home for approximately eight months, during which time she went on holiday, enjoyed a donkey ride each week and lived the life of a normal, happy eighteen month old.

Unfortunately, the joy we felt as Milly began to crawl, walk and progress as we hoped was short lived. The extra exertion put strain on Milly’s heart, which meant that in January 2015 she was admitted to hospital and the decision was made to operate.

Sadly following heart surgery Milly suffered numerous post-operative complications and died the night before her second birthday. This was a very sad occasion as Milly was a vivacious, happy little girl, but this mountain was just too high for her to climb.

If I ever lost a child I would hope that I had the strength to do something similar and I am sure you do too so dig deep and donate please it will be appreciated by many
