On 13 September I'm cycling from Glasgow to Edinburgh as part of the Pedal for Scotland event, raising money for the Maggie's Cancer Centres charity.
There are two reasons why I'm doing this.
One is the ride itself. It's 55 miles long, so you can point out with some justification that it's not the hardest of charity events. But this is from Glasgow to Edinburgh - we've been warned to expect a monsoon, hailstones and snow blizzards, all before we reach Falkirk.
Secondly, and more importantly, it's for a fantastic cause. As you may know, my wife, Bev, is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer, handling the treatment with incredible spirit and a stubborn refusal to let it stop her smiling and laughing.
Through the treatment we have become more familiar with Maggie's. The charity, which has centres next to major NHS cancer treatment units, offers invaluable support to anyone with cancer, helping people with everything from nutrional advice to psychological support, all for free.

Thanks for all your support.
