Running the Edinburgh Marathon 2019 for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) to help us save men's lives.

Story

Jem 'n' Kris do Edinburgh - an unlikely tale of two 'marathon n00b' siblings training at opposite ends of the country with one common goal: to smash Edinburgh Marathon 2019.

In March 2000, we lost our eldest brother Ian to suicide. In 2017, we then lost a second brother, Robert, when he took his own life at home. To lose someone to suicide is heart-breaking, it's a loss without comparison. But to lose two? Utterly life changing.  And there's nothing like a long run on your own to bring those thoughts of "what if?" and "what could I have done differently?" to the front of your mind.

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against male suicide, the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK. CALM's goal is a life less miserable for you, your friends, your family and for all men.

CALM PROVIDES:

  • A free helpline (0800 585858) and webchat (5pm-12am daily), which are confidential, anonymous and staffed by trained professionals
  • Bereavement support through the Support After Suicide Partnership, hosted by CALM
  • www.theCALMzone.net is CALM's website, hosting inspiring content written by men for men alongside information and support
  • Successful campaigns tackling stereotypes of masculinity, suicide and male mental health, including #BiggerIssues, #ManDictionary, #DontBottleItUp and #Project84CALMs helpline and webchat services directly prevented 427 suicides in 2017.

Help CALM save more men's lives, support our marathon fundraising. Thank you!
