Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit this fundraising page, which was set up to raise money for the charity Alzheimer's Research UK.
I will be running for my Aaji (grandmother) who is the sweetest, most loving and caring person you’ll ever meet.
She’s been living with Dementia for 10+ years. Although it takes a few moments for her to recognise me, when she finally does, she smiles and it melts my heart. I have so much love for her, and if you ever met her you would too.
If there were a cure for dementia, it’s accurate to say I’d do anything for it. Currently there is no cure, but I can at least do what small measures I can to help the research charity find it. I’m not a runner or an athletic person at all. I hate the cold and the rain - especially running in it, and I’d much prefer the yoga mat. But it is a minor hurdle in showing my love for my Aaji, so it looks like I’m running the marathon.
Update: 22/12/2022
On Sunday 18th December my grandmother passed away in hospital and is now at peace. I will now be raising money in memory of my beloved Aaji, Kamala Jirapure, in support of Alzheimers Research UK and to remember her love of life so that one day nobody else will have to endure what this disease inflicts on families and loved ones.
Update: 20th April 2023
A week before the planned 2023 marathon, an immediate family member had passed away. Consumed with greif and shock, the most appropriate decision at the time was to postpone my entry to 2025. The new date for this event in April 27th 2025.
