Jemima and Ella’s lockdown 150km · 5 November 2020

During treatment for clinical depression, Sam West committed suicide at the age of 15. While a tragedy for his family, this reflects the growing challenge of mental health among children and young adults in the UK. The Foundation promotes awareness, diagnosis and treatment of mental health

Story

We have decided to run 150km between us over the next 4 weeks throughout lockdown from the 5th November to the 2nd December, in aid of the Sam West Foundation. We both went to school with Sam, and so this is something very close to both of our hearts.
1 in 4 people will be affected by mental at some point during their life time, and with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, global mental health has worsened by 8.1%, proving that our mental health is as important as ever during this period of time.
As we cannot play sport for the next 4 weeks, we thought this would be a great opportunity to use our time to wisely and raise money for a brilliant charity.

Sam was part of a close and loving family He was widely regarded among his many friends as being gentle, kind, cheeky and quick-witted. His talents in both music and the arts were evident to all. Sam first started showing signs of depression and anxiety when aged 14. Tragically, after he started being treated for clinical depression, he took his own life at the age of 15. We set up the Foundation to promote awareness, diagnosis and treatment of mental health affecting other children, young adults and their families.
