JCP Swansea Half Marathon 2017 · 25 June 2017 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the only charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Anyone who knows me will know I am a little running addict. Particularly over the last 10 months I've become very focused in my distance and speed, wanting to achieve being the fittest I can possibly be. It's also helped me get through a really challenging, emotional roller coaster of a year and gives me the stress relief I need from working such a stressful and demanding job.

This will be my first distance event so I'm really nervous but also really excited. There are so many charities that are important to me, but unfortunately I can't save the world, but I can help a little.

My beautiful, amazing, kind and caring friend Katie Sully has been through a really difficult year. Her lovely mother suffered a stroke in September, turning her life and her families life upside down. After a tough few months, momma Sal is doing amazing. Katie has given up her job so that she can be at home to be a carer for her mum which in my eyes is an amazing thing to do. I think this has been a nice opportunity for Katie to spend a lot more time with her mum and her family, but being a full time carer also has its own difficulties, regardless Katie has been so strong throughout it all. Katie is one of my closest friends and what is important to her is also important to me. Momma Sal is so lucky to have such a supportive family, but some people aren't so lucky and need the support of charities such as The Stroke Association. They have been absolutely amazing supporting Momma Sal and the family, they really do help people get through it.

I want this event to be an opportunity for me to help others, so I will be running the Swansea Half Marathon on 25th June 2017 with my friend Rhian Thomas in aid of raising money for the Stroke Association.
