1:6000 children are born with microtia. Microtia results in underdeveloped ear(s) and impacts hearing. It can impact the heart, kidneys, different parts of the face and spine. There is an ongoing question whether microtia is environmental or genetic or a combination.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

We will be running the Hackney Half marathon on 20th
May 2018, raising money for Microtia UK - a charity dedicated to furthering the understanding of, and improving the lives of children and parents impacted by, microtia.

The charity has over 1,600 members and has significantly contributed to helping those affected by the condition, including: providing psychological support, organising events for experts to share their research on microtia, working with experts to create a microtia centre of excellence in the UK, and  contributing towards the development of better reconstructive techniques.

Microtia is a rare condition which can manifest in a variety of symptoms, including , most commonly, hearing loss and small or absent ears. 1 in 7,000 babies are born with microtia, including musician Paul Stanley from Kiss, and the recent film, Wonder, also features the character Auggie, who has microtia. So awareness of the condition is increasing, but much more can be done to help further our understanding.
