Bupa Great South Run 2013 · 27 October 2013 ·

We take groups of young disabled teenagers to a specialist Disability Sports Center. The aim is to help them grow in confidence and self-belief, prove that they can achieve great things despite their disabilities, and carry out activities that they previously may have thought out of their reach.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

SALVESON ADAPTIVE is a small charity offering once in a lifetime opportunities for disabled teenagers, allowing them to develop and grow in confidence, challenge their beliefs and abilities, overcome their perceived limitations, meet new friends and be inspired (hopefully) for the rest of their lives.

Over the years I have worked as a volunteer on a number of these trips taking groups of 10 to 15 disabled teenagers to the National Sports Centre for the Disabled in Winter Park, Colorado.  These trips have included young people with a wide range of disabilities including amputees, Downs syndrome, autism, Angelmans syndrome, scoliosis, nystygmus and blind / partially sighted.

During these weeks I have witnessed teenagers' confidence and self-belief grow exponentially as they prove that they can achieve great things despite their disabilities and carry out activities that they previously thought beyond their reach. My approach to life has also been transformed as I have witnessed the courage and determination of these incredible young people.

I would be grateful if you would consider providing support for more young people to benefit in such a wonderful way by sponsoring my "Great" South Run. Training is proving a challenge so please don't expect a record breaking time!  However I WILL get round for this phenomenal cause and will be immensely grateful for all contributions - whatever the amount.

Thank you for your support.
