Story

From Kerry:

N.I.C.F.C have done so much for my family over the last 2 years. When Noel was dx with terminal cancer they were a fantastic support and still are to all of us. We managed a family break at Shimna Valley, Newcastle, it was our last holiday as a family before Noel passed away. Nathan is part of Young Shoulders. Meeting other children in the same situation has helped him so much. We have been back to Shimna Valley as a family of 3. Although a hard trip one that helped the kids & I so much with the wonderful support of the staff. I am climbing in remberance of my darling husband Noel but also in memory of Patrick Powers, husband to Michele who has become a very good friend to both Jen & I. Our friendship formed out of something so devastating but one that will last a lifetime.

Michele & Brian we will make sure to toast Noel & Patrick from the top xx

 From Jen:

Cancer... Six letters when by themselves are absolutely harmless... When strung together are devastating. So I learned in March of 2011 when my friend Kerry called to tell me her dear husband Noel had been diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer, one of the most deadly, horrific cancers known to man. Not only was Kerry going to lose her husband, but, their children, Nate age 8 and Ellie age 5, were going to lose their dear Daddy. Over the months and now years that have gone by since that call, my friends needed support and care that so many wanted to give, but, just were not skilled enough to provide. When Kerry told me about NICFC and their trip to Shimna, it was such a relief and such a blessing. This organization provided a solice to this family in such great need; and continues to support Kerry, Nathan and Ellie with Noel looking on from the heavens above. Through these past two years, we have joined another family. A family that reaches throughout the world, many nations strong. Our bond is the pain that Pancreatic Cancer has brought to each of our lives. This family is strong, because we have no other choice but to be strong. We lean on one another, we trust one another, we know the pain that no one else can know. Michele Powers is a member of this family. We were brought together by some powerful angels who knew what an awesome team we'd make! Michele is devoted to raising awareness and finding a cure as she lost her dear husband Patrick to this monster. Brian, her dear son, lost his Dad. Kerry and I have rasied funds together, with an ocean dividing us. This day, we walk, climb, sweat and struggle together, side by side, to honor Noel, to honor Patrick, to raise awareness and give thanks. Thank you Northern Ireland Cancer Fund for Children. Thank you for all you have done for the Irvines. Thank you for all you do for all the families faced with this devastation. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
