Jen and James Hadlow's Colour Run page - for Cami-Rose

Colour Run · 17 September 2016
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On the 8th of February 2015 our daughter, nearly 3 weeks old at the time Cami-Rose was suffering with what we thought was bad wind. She is the youngest of 4 children. Not normally a fussy baby she spent the day crying and not settling at all. It got to 4pm in the afternoon and on one side of her face, her gland had completely swollen was red and hot to touch so we decided to take her to A+E. Within 40 minutes of being there she deteriorated quickly and we were rushed to resus.
She was treated for meningitis and septicaemia and had to have a lumber puncture. She slowly stabilised and received numerous tests was monitored and had pain relief and antibiotics every 4 hours for 5 days, spent a total of 7 days in hospital
.
She had late onset strep b which she contracted from the birth canal. The youngest of 4, and the only one to contacted it, and I never knew I was a carrier.
She would not be here now if it wasn't for me taking her to A+E when I did, and the quick response of the A+E staff and all the doctors and nurses.
However, all of this could of been prevented with one simple test that i could of received whilst pregnant and more awareness and information for pregnant women and new mummy's.
One in 10 babies born with GBS will die from the infection. Another one in five babies who survive the infection will be affected permanently.
My Husband and I will be participating in the Brighton Colour Run this year, September 17th and wil be doing it to raise money for this amazing charity, Group b Strep Support to help raise awareness for this common problem that devestates people's lives. We were one of the lucky ones and want to do what we can to help.
