Alzheimer Scotland is the leading, national dementia charity in Scotland. Our mission is to make sure nobody faces dementia alone. We provide advice, information and support and we are here for people living with dementia, their families and carers across Scotland.

Story

Hot off the heels of the Arctic Trek (or should I say cold...) in 2019, I signed up to climb Kilimanjaro in September 2020. I was young, fit and nothing could phase me...

However, along came a global pandemic and all of a sudden the only walking I was doing was round the local park and to the Co-op, often via the chip shop. The Glasgow City Centre boundary was VERY small.

Like everyone else, life became very different and focus shifted.

2020, 2021 and the winter of 2022 flies by in a blur of online pub quizzes, video calls, working from home, Netflix box sets and updates from Boris and Nicola. But things start to look up (covid numbers too...) and by mid 2022, like a spring flower, life started opening up again.

In March 2022, an email pops to my inbox - title "Kili Trek"... I put it on the back burner, I had socialising to do - postponed weddings, belated birthday celebrations and missed opportunities for winding up my nephew.

However, by the middle of the year, I could put it off no longer. After a classic "will she, wont she" couple of weeks, I decided to take the plunge - she shall, for if not now, then when?

It's a 6 day endeavor - up in 5 and down in one. That's 6 whole days, 5 whole nights, 144 hours or 8640 minutes in which I'll be without all of my usual creature comforts including toilets or showers... smelly!

So, here I am, a mere 2 weeks to go until I attempt to get to the summit of Kilimanjaro (a whopping 5,895 m (or 19,340 feet) high) and I'm politely asking you to sponsor me, please.

I'm going to try, very hard (classic Capricorn, I am single minded to the point of recklessness), to make it to the top of Kilimanjaro for Alzheimer Scotland. It's a charity that both family and friends have called upon over the last few years and so is one close to my heart.

For all the donations raised, my work (Brodies LLP) will match fund, so not only does every penny count but it counts twice!

Thank you all in advance and please wish me luck (I'm going to need it!).
